Caerphilli

Creamy with a velvety texture

Out of stock

A Welsh classic, made to the original recipes from current cheesemaker Carwyn Adams’ great grandmothers over 80 years ago.  This wonderful organic Caerfilli has a delicious creaminess and a subtle citrussy flavour, and a loose velvety texture achieved by cutting the curds by hand.  With the additonal of sea salt the curds are gently pressed into moulds before being floated in brine to maintain the moisture within.  Presented as a round cheese in wax.

Caws Cenarth Cheese

Caws Cenarth is a family business started in 1987 by Gwnfor and Thelma Adams.

Built on a heritage of six generations of cheese making, Caws Cenarth quickly built a reputation for its creamy, fresh-flavoured Caerfilli. Now run by Carwyn Adams, Caws Cenarth represents the best in Welsh artisan cheesemaking, with the original Caerfilli being joined by a stunning range of award-winning organic cheeses.

Based in the lovely valley of the river Cych, Caws cenarth cheeses are made using the milk produced by cows grazing the rich pastures of the area. Each batch of cheese varies slightly depending on the mix of grass and flowers in the cows’ diet.

The oldest established prodcuer of Welsh Farmhouse Caerfilli, Caws Cenarth under the guidance of Carwyn have added three new cheeses to the range: the Brie-like Perl Wen, Perl Las- a creamy blue veined cheese, and Golden Cenarth- a washed rind cheese with a powerful flavour. In  2010, the rind washed Golden Cenarth was awarded Best Dairy Product at the Soil Association Awards, and Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards
